The Ship

Our vessel is a type"302" four-deck ship, with a lower deck for the crew, the main deck for reception (and where our cabin is--very convenient for getting on and off te ship), the middle deck where our restaurantis, and the boat deck. Of course there is a sun deck on top where we have morning exercises and where folks hang out for sunning and sightseeing when it isn't raining. Passenger capacity is 282,and we have about 100 crew members, including the deck hands, officers, doctor, maids, mechanic, servers, kitchen help, a female chef, entertainers, and the on-board guides, who look after the passenger groups.
Built in Germany in 1987, refurbished in 2007, the ship is 129 meters in length, and the speed is about 17 miles per hour.
This is definitely not a luxury cruise ship. Our cabin is compact with two narrow beds, a table under the window, an AC, and small refrigerator. The bathroom has a sink and shower at one end and the toilet at the other. There is a heavy plastic  grid to stand on to provide footing for the shower. To shower, pull the shower curtain around you, closing off the bathroom door and the toilet. There is a hand held shower head. There are two closets,  several shelves, and two small drawers. There is an electrical outlet to use with a converter for our charging station. There is maid service daily .The matresses are not very comfortable, but at least the bed is long enough (barely) for David. (The bed on the China cruise was not.) There are nice quality linens and pillows.
